New Research Uncovers Elusive Target of Antifungal Agent
A research team in Japan has uncovered the mechanism underlying the antifungal activity of theonellamide (TNM), a bioactive compound found in a species of marine sponge. Charleston, SC, Walking Tour Company Relaunches Donation Program To Aid Local Child's Battle with Soft Tissue Cancer
Charleston, South Carolina's best walking tour company, Bulldog Tours, has raised over $2,500 for Family Connection South Carolina, which helps parents of children with disabilities in South Carolina, through their donation program launched last winter. Bulldog Tours relaunched this program June 1 to benefit Hugs for Harper, a charity set up on behalf of nine-year-old, Harper Drolet, who was diagnosed with soft tissue cancer in October 2009.

Chicago Whistleblower Lawyer Michael I. Behn Spotlights State Medicaid Fraud Prosecutions through "Qui Tam" Lawsuits at National Conference
Whistleblowers' lawyer Michael I. Behn of Chicago, Illinois, highlighted the success of Medicaid fraud prosecutions under state False Claims Acts at a national seminar sponsored by the American Bar Association. Behn represented the pharmacist "qui tam relator" in Medicaid fraud cases recovering over $120 million under federal and state False Claims Acts. The "qui tam" provisions of False Claims Acts encourage private citizens with knowledge of Medicaid fraud, procurement fraud and other frauds against taxpayers to help the government recover ill-gotten gains and additional civil penalties. Behn noted that whistleblowers, known as "relators," can receive legal protection and up to 30 percent of the governments' recovery.
